Ciplox is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that is prescribed for treating urinary tract infections, including acute uncomplicated cystitis, pyelonephritis, and chronic bacterial prostatitis.
Ciplox belongs to the broad-spectrum antimicrobial class of antibiotics related to fluoroquinolones. This drug works by inhibiting DNA-gyrase, an enzyme essential for bacterial DNA replication and the synthesis of cellular proteins, leading to bacterial death and exhibiting bactericidal effects.
Ciplox is effective against both multiplying and resting bacteria. It is utilized to address various conditions and diseases resulting from bacterial infections in the pulmonary system, kidneys, urogenital system, gastrointestinal system (including the mouth, teeth, jaws, bladder, and biliary tract), skin, mucous membranes, and soft tissues among others. It targets a range of gram-negative aerobic and gram-positive bacteria such as Salmonella, Shigella, Proteus, Chlamydia, Streptococcus, and certain species of the Staphylococcus genus.
Take Ciplox precisely as instructed by your healthcare provider, with a large glass of water, with or without food, and at even time intervals. Increase your water intake during the treatment. Avoid consuming dairy products simultaneously, as they can reduce Ciplox's efficacy. Do not crush, chew, or break the extended-release tablet; swallow it whole. For the oral liquid, swallow it without chewing.
Before starting Ciplox, consult your doctor if you have any kidney or liver issues, myasthenia gravis, joint concerns, diabetes, a history of seizures, low potassium levels in your blood, or heart rhythm disorders. Also, limit your exposure to UV radiation.
Potential side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, rash, headache, restlessness, confusion, hallucinations, pale or yellowish skin, dark urine, and easy bruising or bleeding. If you experience any of these symptoms, discontinue Ciplox and reach out to your healthcare provider.
Avoid taking a double dose of Ciplox. If it’s nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule.
Signs of an overdose may include seizures, difficulty urinating, weakness, or a combination of blue lips and pale skin. If you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention immediately.
